After their involvement in the heavy fighting at Messines on 31st October, 1914, the 6th Dragoon Guards of 4 Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division moved back to billets in Westoutre before moving to new billets at St Jean Cappel. They remained here until 7th November on which date they marched to trenches at Wulverghem, leaving their horses at Neuve Eglise. Two days later they were withdrawn from these positions and moved back across the border to billets in Bailleul. According to records Alexander Cochrane was killed on 10th November but it is more likely that he was killed on 9th November and his death not recorded until the following day. |
